Respiratory Care - NBRC Test

Certification: Test Prep NBRC - National Board for Respiratory Care

NBRC (National Board For Respiratory Care) administers a number of Respiratory Care exams: RRT-ACCS, CPFT, CRT, CRT-NPS, RPFT, RRT, CRT-SDS.

What is the NBRC?

What is the NBRC? Well, first of all, the acronym NBRC is short for the National Board for Respiratory Care. This is an agency that is designed for respiratory therapists and pulmonary function technologists. It is located in the United States and was originated in 1960.

Over the past forty some years this agency has issued out over 220,000 credentials. It is sponsored by ASA, which appoints five of the members that are found on the board of trustees for the NBRC. The people that make up this board are the ones that make the policies which decide how the agency operates. One reason the ASA is a sponsor of the NBRC is because it provides them with a great opportunity to take part in the development of these fields.

They have the perfect chance to voice their opinions and have some control over what the NBRC exams contain. The members of this board are a vital addition to the team of professionals that make up the United States health care system.

The nbrc exams are sometimes called entry level exams and when you pass these exams you become a C.R.T. which is a Certified Respiratory Therapist. Students who have a two year certification in Associate of Science Degree are eligible to take the nbrc exam. You can also take the exams if you have completed the certification program that is available at York College.

Where and When Can You Take the NBRC EXAMS?

The NBRC exams can be taken every day but Sunday and they are available by computer. There are many Assessment Centers located all over the country that make these test accessible to any student that is ready to further their career. You can submit an application online or you can download and print a copy of the application to be mailed in to see if you are approved to take the test.

You can submit an application at any time because there is no deadline for these exams. However, to be accepted you do need to meet the admission requirement that are mentioned above. You can also receive more information in this area online where you receive the application forms.

There is a fee for these tests that must be sent in with your application. You will be given the amount of this fee when you receive the application. It is very important that you realize that if you do not meet the requirement of the test, then you may be charge a processing fee, so make sure you are ready before submitting your application.

The length of time that it takes to process your application will depend on how you submit it. For example, if you mailed it in, then it will normally take about two to four weeks after your application has been received before you will get a response. If you have not heard something by then, it may be possible that you have to resubmit so you will need to contact the NBRC.

If you submit the application online then it will be processed immediately. If for some reason it can not be confirmed that you meet all the requirements, then you will receive a letter explaining why and what information could not be confirmed.

When all the information has been confirmed you will receive a notice with a phone number so you can call to schedule an appointment to go take the exam. You must allow at least three days between the time you call and the day you want to take the exams. You cannot get same day or next day exams set up. In fact, the longer you plan in advance the better it will be. If you prefer not to call you can set up your schedule date online once you have been approved and all fees have been paid.

Make sure that before you go through this whole process that you are prepared to take the exams. Once you have been approved you only have ninety days to take the exams. This is the only time frame in which your eligibility will be valid. If you pass the deadline you will have to start the whole process over from scratch. This includes sending in a new payment for the fee as well.

The same is true if you are more than fifteen minutes late for your test or if you fail to show up at all. This is why it is important that you plan in advance and make sure that you are ready and available to take the exam. It is also the reason it is best to schedule the test as soon as possible after being accepted. They are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis and if you wait to long, you may not be able to take the test within the time frame required and you must start over again.

NBRC Seminars

It is extremely important that you are prepared for the NBRC exam before you sign up to take it. One way that you can do this is by taking advantage of nbrc exam review seminars. These are great because they will provide you with everything that you will need to pass these entry level exams with an excellent score. These seminars will provide you with current study guides that contain accurate information.

You will also be given a workbook that provides you with many practice questions. To help ensure that you are ready for the exams you will also have the opportunity to take a pre-test which determines where you should start your studies. There will be a practice test available when you are ready to test your skills and a complete exam that will show you exactly what your skill level is.

You will be provided an answer key and a breakdown of your test score so there will be no question concerning how ready you are for the original nbrc exam. There is one thing that you will be asked during the seminar and that is, not to use any outside material to study for the exam. You only need to use the materials that they provide you with and you will be fully prepared.
