What do you need to know about taking the GMAT test? If you want to be accepted into graduate management or business school of some type, you will have to take the Graduate Management Admission Test, or the GMAT. The GMAT exam is developed by the graduate Management Admission Council and is intended to help consistently measure the academic skill of possible students. Every person who wants to work in this field will want to take and pass the GMAT. There is often a lot of needless stress and anxiety involved with taking the GMAT but the more you learn, the more prepared you can be to go into this prepared.

GMAT testing centers are set up to give the GMAT test and assess the skills that a person has developed over a long period of time as opposed to specific knowledge in business or other areas. There is a lot of anxiety when it comes to the GMAT. In fact, studies show that more people do poorly simply because they are nervous or anxious about the test. Preparing for it ahead of time is a great way to avoid this anxiety. Statistics show that many people do better the second time around simply because they know what to expect and have less tension regarding the GMAT.

The more prepared you are going into the test, the less reason for anxiety and tension and the better you will do. The GMAT has three different sections of testing: Analytical Writing, Quantitative, and Verbal. You also have the option to take a ten-minute break in between sections. Be sure, just like with any other test that you also get plenty of rest the night before and that you eat a healthy meal the night before and a breakfast the day of the test.

You may also want to prepare by taking a GMAT prep test and a free GMAT test for practice. GMAT prep courses will help you know what to expect and what to study for and can also help you evaluate whether or not you are prepared to take the test for real. Some areas even have study groups and more for you to help you get prepared for your GMAT. You can meet with other people that are also planning to take the same test and together you can review for GMAT questions.

Remember that you will need to register for the GMAT if you want to take it and you will likely have to wait for a scheduled test taking time. You can register for the GMAT exam by visiting the General Management Admission website for more details. You will also be able to find out more about when and where the test is taking place.

GMAT Scoring

Immediately after you finish the test you will receive an unofficial score. Later, you will be mailed an official scoring for the GMAT test. The score report will have four scores for the following sections: verbal, quantitative, total and analytical writing assessment.

The verbal and quantitative scores will range from 0 to 60, and the total score will range from 200 to 800. The analytical writing assessment score will be an average of the scores assigned for: issue and argument. Each short essay is scored by two judges on a scale of 1 to 6, and these scores will be averaged to get a final score.

This chart shows the different portions of the test. Here are the sections on the GMAT:
